The Rotary Club of Innisfil is a fairly new club, being chartered in 2010. Grace Dorion is proud to be the president of this vibrant club.
One of the club’s best community projects is the “Lights and Wishes” project. This annual event is held in December to promote community. The funds raised usually go to the Jump Start program or other YMCA children’s initiatives. The signature event is the Rotary Train – decorated and ready for rides around the YMCA complex.
Children also get to visit with Santa and have their photo taken with him. One of the reasons that the event is so successful is because of the strong partnership with the YMCA.
YMCA staff and volunteers help Innisfil Rotarians make this a great event for the local community. The Rotary Club of Innisfil would love to have Rotarians from neighbouring clubs join them at the event to participate and help in the festivities. They would also appreciate any auction items to include in their silent auction table at the event. This year’s event chair is Sue Gilchrist who would be happy to provide details to interested Rotarians.
In terms of international service, members of the Rotary Club of Innisfil have been very involved for over 8 years with the HHART (Haitian Humanitarian Assistance and Relief Trips) project, a project led by Steve Wallace and the Rotary Club of Wasaga Beach. Last year, 4 Innisfil Rotarians travelled to the Dominican Republic as part of the HHART team.
If you are ever in the Innisfil area, please consider doing a make-up at the Rotary Club of Innisfil. The club meets Wednesdays at 7:30am at the Innisfil ideaLAB & Library at 967 Innisfil Beach Road.
