Luc Tessier is proud to be the president of the Rotary Club of Chapleau. This club has been serving the Chapleau community for over 65 years. The 15 members of this small but mighty club are always ready to roll up their sleeves and get the job done. As a group, they bring many talents to the table and members complement each other.
The Township of Chapleau would be a much different place without contributions from the Rotary Club of Chapleau. The club's annual Pike Ice Fishing Derby generates funds which are reinvested in the community. The club was a major contributor to the township's waterfront revitalization which includes a splash pad for kids and recently, funds from last year's derby went towards renovations at the arena, curling club and community hall. The Rotary Club of Chapleau was the first group to use the newly renovated state of the art kitchen to prepare a 5 course meal as part of a dinner dance fundraiser. For more information about the derby, contact Luc Tessier.
The club is involved in other community events as well. In October, members participated in the annual “adopt-a-highway clean-up”. They also hosted a “Meet the Candidates Night” prior to the municipal election. The club partnered with the Chapleau detachment of the Superior East OPP on the “Slush OP 2018” program. From July 9, 2018 to August 31, 2018 the Chapleau Detachment officers were on the lookout for school aged youths demonstrating positive contributions to the community and participating in activities in a law-abiding manner. These youth earned a free small slush and a chance to win a brand new bicycle.
Internationally, the Rotary Club of Chapleau has supported Shelterbox and sponsored wheelchairs. Last year, for the District supported R.E.L.A.Y. project in Zambia, the club was one of 2 main sponsors of “Shoes That Grow”. These sturdy sandals are fully adjustable and can fit a child for up to 5 sizes. These shoes were provided to every student at the school in Zambia.
If you are ever in the Chapleau area, please consider doing a make-up at the Rotary Club of Chapleau. Meetings take place on Tuesdays at 6:00pm at Aux Trois Moulins Restaurant at 154 Martel Road in Chapleau.
