Arrival Orientation

WELCOME INBOUND STUDENTS
Your first orientation will take place camping and canoeing in Algonquin Park. This is your opportunity to meet fellow exchange students and get to know more about your journey in the coming year. 
 
This will be a fun event, so feel free to bring any kind of entertainment to share (e.g: music, mime, dance, singing, comedy, magic, juggling, drama). You don’t have to be perfect to join in the fun.
 
On this page, you will find all the details about your arrival orientation and what items you need to bring.

Algonquin Outfitters – Oxtongue Lake
 

Preparation Notes
A local Rotarian member will drive you to Algonquin park. They will contact you with details for pickup, depending upon where you live.

Other Items To Bring

  • You will be camping in the wilderness so you need to pack for such a trip. 
  • 3 days change of clothes. This is a camp setting, do not bring dress up clothes or high heeled shoes; running shoes, sandals, casual clothes such as t-shirts, shorts are fine! 
  • Country Flag (You will want this for photos).
  • Light weight jacket (rain proof) and sweatshirt, it can be cool in the evening.
  • Swim suit and/or shorts and shirt that can get wet.
  • Overnight bathroom supplies (tooth brush, toothpaste, shampoo, etc.)+
  • Towels and linens are supplied.
  • We know that you will be using your cell phone camera to record some of these amazing memories however, there will be no power during the trip as you will be living on Islands. Thus you may want to bring a fully charged battery charger.
  • No laptops please, they are not needed.
  • Money is not required although there is a gift shop at the beginning of the trip that you may want to purchase something to remember the trip.  
Please make certain that you sit down and read these instructions with your host family so that they fully understand the information.
   

Rotarian Information
This is our opportunity to make sure that all of their documents are in order. Please make sure travel arrangements are made well in advance and also encourage the student pack lightly.  We want to be able to get as many students as possible into the carpool vehicles. 

District 7010 Conference

WELCOME TO YOUR DISTRICT CONFERENCE AND REUNION


We are soon approaching our ‘reunion’ as we come together to share memories of our year and celebrate the achievements of Rotary District 7010 at the annual District Conference.  

When
Normally in September or October of each year.

Where
Location of the conference varies from year to year.

Transportation 
All Transportation to be updated and confirmed as we get closer to the date.
 
ARRIVAL:  Thursday Afternoon
DEPARTURE:  Sunday noon  
 
Clothing 
There are several events planned during your time at the conference.  Please check this list carefully…
  • Blazer (with pins) for opening flag ceremony
  • Swim suit----for swimming pool
  • More formal wear for the Gala Banquet (clothing should be fitting for a more formal occasion…boys:  dress shirt / dress pants…girls: dress or skirt /blouse
  • Regular clothing that you would pack for most travel - something you would wear to school
Money
Some spending money----we will have some time downtown to do a little shopping.
 

Schedule of Events
District conference is a chance to get together with all inbound and rebound students. Your main goal is to prepare a 25 minute presentation that will be performed in front of the entire conference. Typically this is a skit about life as an exchange student.

Clubs are responsible to ensure transportation to and from conference.

Winter Weekend

DISCOVER THE CANADIAN ECOLOGY CENTRE

Your mid-winter orientation will take place the first weekend in February at the Canadian Ecology Centre in Mattawa Ontario. This weekend you will meet the future outbounds and will experience many outdoor winter activities. 

 

When
Normally the first weekend in February.

Where
Canadian Ecology Centre – Mattawa Ontario.
 
Transportation
All Transportation to be updated and confirmed as we get closer to the date.
 
ARRIVAL:  Friday Afternoon
DEPARTURE:  Sunday noon  
 
Clothing
We spend a lot of time outside where temperatures can be as low as -20 Celsius. Please check this list carefully…
  • Winter coat and snow pants
  • Warm hat and gloves
  • Towels and toiletries
  • Bedding is supplied
  • Regular clothing that you would pack for most travel - something you would wear to school
Money
Some spending money is not required.
 

Schedule of Events

Schedule of events is determined in connection with the ecology centre but will include snow shoeing, campfire, wolf howling and winter outdoor games.
 
Clubs are responsible to ensure transportation to and from Winter Weekend.

Bon Voyage Weekend

DISCOVER THE NATION'S CAPITAL

Your spring district event will take place on the long weekend in May. We will visit the Capital of Canada and explore some of the history. 
 

When
Normally the Victoria Day weekend.

Where
Ottawa Ontario – University of Ottawa Residence.
 
Transportation
All Transportation to be updated and confirmed as we get closer to the date.
 
ARRIVAL:  Friday Afternoon
DEPARTURE:  Monday Morning  
 
Money
During the trip there will be considerable free time to explore the ByWard Market so money is strongly encouraged.
 

Schedule of Events

During the trip we will visit some of the nation’s historical museums, do a biking tour around the nation’s capital, visit parliament hill and other historic sites. There will also be a scavenger hunt that will provide lots of time to explore.
