On behalf of District Governor John Gordon, I am pleased to announce a new training program now available to Rotarians throughout our District.

Our District has joined more than 300 Districts from around the Rotary world in order to provide more training for individual Rotarians through a program provided by the Rotary Leadership Institute. This program is a way of taking Rotarians from any level of experience and give them more in depth Rotary knowledge and information.

Training provided in this program helps prepare each Rotarian for the opportunity to assume a leadership role that they can define and determine for themselves. It could be within their own club or at the District level. Perhaps they want to be a better committee chair or move on to club President. They might want to advance to a District Committee Chair or Assistant Governor or perhaps District Governor.  It could even be just for general knowledge or to be a quiet mentor to other Rotarians.

The program is wide open as to what you do with the information you gain but it is a great way to expand your Rotary knowledge and keep current.

The Rotary Leadership Institute program is divided into three parts and you must take the sessions in order as they build on each other. Our District (D7010) has joined the RLI – Shining Water Division along with Districts 6330, 7070, 7080 and 7090 and training sessions will be held in a variety of locations.

Next sessions for Part 1, Part 2, and Part3 are available in this schedule:

                  Saturday, November 17                                   Stratford, Ontario

Saturday, January 26, 2013                              Lapeer, Michigan

Saturday, May 4, 2013                                     London, Ontario

The trainers who facilitate these learning sessions are Rotarians from all of the Districts involved with Shining Waters. We hope to host these training sessions within our own District with some of our own Rotarians acting as part of the Faculty Team. To do this we need to put some of our District Rotarians, who already have extensive Rotary International experience and leadership training, through the Faculty Development training program. Our District will host this session in Barrie at the Days Inn on November 3rd. This session is open to Past Governors and Assistant Governors who will need to be approved by our District Governor to participate. After successful completion of the Faculty Training session, these Rotarians will be eligible to facilitate Parts 1, 2, and 3 after they complete those modules themselves.

This is a great learning program that allows for interaction with other Districts and enhances the leadership skills of all Rotarians who participate.
