The month of October is economic development month.

This month has been quite busy as I continue to tour our district visiting Rotary Clubs. I visited 12 clubs during the month bringing my total visits to 40 Rotary Clubs plus 1 Rotaract Club.  I am amazed at all the projects that you are involved in both locally and globally and I noted how Rotarians share their gifts and their talents in their communities to support community development.

Nearly 1.4 billion employed people live on less than $1.25 a day.  We carry out service projects that enhance economic and community development and develop opportunities for decent and productive work for young and old.  We also help strenghten local entrepreneurs and community leaders, particularly women, in impoverished communities.

Rotary promotes economic and community development and helps in creating meaningful employment for people of all ages. Rotarians worldwide help reduce poverty in the most impoverished communities by strengthening local entrepreneurship, especially amongst women.

We can fight poverty by creating a measurable and sustained, long-term economic improvements to livelihoods in our communities:
• Strengthen the development of entrepreneurs and local leaders and the skills of local organizations and networks so that they are able to support disadvantaged communities.
• Develop meaningful and productive employment opportunities.
• Reduce poverty in impoverished communities.
• Fund scholarships and vocational training teams in the field of economic and community development.
